Kapalua runs six lines on the slopes behind the resort at the northern end of West Maui, on land that was pineapple field within living memory. The detail that separates it from every other course in Hawaii is that each line is doubled: two cables side by side, two riders leaving together. On a course where several spans come close to half a mile, that changes the experience from a queue of individual rides into something you actually share.
The spans are the longest currently running on Maui. Not by design so much as by attrition, since the two courses that beat it are both closed, but the lines are genuinely long and the gradient is enough that you arrive with speed rather than coasting in. Between the cables the course crosses a 360 ft suspension bridge, the longest in the state, and for most riders that bridge is the part they describe afterwards.
The limits are the ones to read before booking. Minimum rider weight is 60 lbs, which is lower than Skyline's 80 lbs and makes Kapalua the more workable of the two West Maui courses for families with smaller children. There is also a minimum height, because a harness that sits wrongly is a safety problem rather than a comfort one. The operator does not publish a maximum height above ground for the course.
West Maui weather is the quiet advantage. This corner of the island is dry and warm most afternoons, and the trade winds build later in the day, which is why morning slots go first. Coming from Kihei or Wailea, allow well over an hour for the drive, and rather more than that if you are travelling in the afternoon.
